Man Riding Scooter Seriously Injured In Crash Involving Westchester Driver In Fairfield County

A man operating a scooter was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle driven by a Westchester man in Fairfield County.

It happened on Friday night, Feb. 14.

At approximately 9:53 p.m., the Bridgeport Emergency Communications Center received a telephone call from Bridgeport Hospital stating it had a male party in its emergency department who was struck by a car.

At 10 p.m., the patrol division was dispatched to Bridgeport Hospital to investigate. 

It was determined the crash had occurred at the intersection of Boston Avenue and Remington Street at approximately 8 p.m., said Bridgeport PD Capt. Kevin Gilleran.

The operator of the scooter has been identified as 36-year-old Michael Valentin of Stratford.

Andrew Grant, 29, of Mount Vernon, has been identified as the operator of the vehicle.

Immediately after the collision, Grant drove Valentin to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said. 

Valentin sustained serious physical injuries, said police. He was ultimately transferred from Bridgeport Hospital to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment.

Grant later returned to the scene and spoke with Bridgeport Police officers.

Police officers determined the scooter had been removed from the scene by unidentified parties.

Bridgeport Police Traffic Officer Cynthia Dolyak is leading the investigation.
